Home offices should be designed to get the work done easier and faster. This takes organization and can be achieved by using already existing closet space or by adding shelving. Shelving can be added to a closet or an already manufactured shelving unit can be set within the closet to give you the storage that is necessary for a home office area. Storage containers that are labeled can hold small items and stored on the shelves. Your closet storage area should be designed to see at a glance the item you need for the project you are working on. Books, manuals, extra paper, and large items can be place directly on the shelves for easy access.

The basic home office furniture consists of a desk that is adequate in size, desk chair, storage unit and a chair that is comfortable to sit in while reading or just taking a break. The desk should be large enough for your computer, printer/scanner, telephone and have shelving above for items that are used on a regular basis and should have several drawers for adequate storage of paper, pen/pencils, notebooks, phonebook and general office supplies.

A desk chair should be comfortable with the right height and if you are sitting at your desk for long periods, consider a lumbar support designed in the chair for comfort and proper support of your spine. Also think of your feet, if you have cold feet you just won’t be concentrating so invest in a thick wool area rug or a toe tempting shag area rug like a wool flokati area rug.

Lighting is very important. The room should have at least two windows to provide natural lighting or if natural lighting isn’t possible, using florescent lighting can provide adequate lighting for your home office. A computer glare screen is healthier for the eyes to prevent eyestrain. Home offices should be well lit to prevent the eyes from tiring.

A ceiling fan can distribute the warmth or cool air for greater comfort. Circulating air will keep you refreshed longer. Opening a window whenever possible in the warm months will keep you refreshed even more. Adding music to your home office workspace is more relaxing and you can be more productive. It takes away the outside noise that can be distracting.

Organization is essential in a home office. It saves time by knowing where something you need for your work is located. It saves money for you can see at a glance the items you are running low on and needs to be replaced when you go shopping. You won’t have too much of one item and not enough of another.

People are choosing to work at home now more than ever before and having a small space for your home office that is free from distraction, well organized and designed just for your needs and comfort will have an effect on your work production and attitude of satisfaction in your work. Not everyone can find the right atmosphere to work at home and even if you do you are still covered with easy distractions. The best home office is to the one that you find the median for where you can work in peace and still take care of things around the house as you see fit.

Wrought Iron Decor

Out of the hardwood cedar comes cedar garden furniture, a mainstay of many North American decks and patios. A clear grade western red cedar commonly used to make outdoor garden furniture. A major concern that many people have about outdoors furniture is how it will thrive in different types of weather. For many living in the northern most part of the United States, a real consideration that has to be taken into account when buying garden furniture is whether or not it can stand up to the snow, sleet, and hail.

In western red cedar, natural oil preserves the wood and helps it resist rot and decay, making it ideal for these conditions. Many people across the United States went crazy for the Adirondack Chair when it premiered because it was the first such piece of furniture to come out of this wood. For this reason, park benches commissioned by the federal government began to be made out of this extremely durable wood. During the Great Depression, many of these benches were worked on by people in the WPA. The WPA was a work program created by President Roosevelt at the time to help those in this country who were unemployed. During the period, many members of the WPA went into the forest and cut down cedar trees to make items like park benches from the cedar trees.

Cedar also was used quite heavily in the making of chests because the wood kept the materials and the chest safe from mildew or mold. Sailors – who used the chests while they were away at sea – particularly liked this piece of furniture. Also during this time period, funeral directors began using cedar and pine to build coffins. Doctors hailing from England were proponents of using cedar coffins to bury the dead because they believed it would halt the spread of disease. There have been many uses for a wood as diverse as cedar.

Many people today use their cedar garden furniture to decorate their patio or decks. Cedar furniture is beautiful and durable, and for these same reasons, many use the wood for inlaying of their patio and gardens. Cedar made accessories, such as serving trays and carts, are easily available from Wal-Mart, Target, and other stores. Two department stores that sell cedar garden furniture are Sears and J.C.Pennies fairly inexpensively but many other places do as well. If shopping on the internet is more your style, you can purchase from The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company. The Cedar Outdoor Furniture Company will also make furniture items tailored to your specific requirements.

Baby Bedding Sets And Baby Precautions

A baby bedding set is the next logical purchase after buying the crib. A big portion of crib bedding sets include a number of pieces – but do you really need them all? Most pediatricians now recommend keeping the crib free from any extra bedding, so all you really need is a crib sheet. If you’re on a tight budget, you’re much better off spending your money on a few high-quality crib sheets than on a bedding set that can’t be used for much more than decoration.

Quilts and crib bumper pads both pose a risk of suffocation, so use them for decoration or just don’t use them. Winter brings worries about the cold, but wearable blankets or sleep sacks are a better choice than a loose quilt. Wearable blankets are sort of like a cross between clothing and a sleeping bag. As swaddling has surged in popularity over the past decade, innovative new products have emerged that help in getting a customized fit. Swaddling can be an excellent way to help a newborn sleep, but it is generally not recommended beyond 6 weeks because of fears it can hinder hip development. You will be holding your baby a lot, so you might still want a blanket or comforter for those times, especially if you’ve had a winter baby. But just keep in mind that the quilt doesn’t go into the crib when baby does.

Another crib accessory is a sleep positioner – a kind of foam wedge designed to keep baby on his back. It’s supposed to reduce the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). But young babies are not able to roll over, so if you put them to bed on their backs, they’ll stay on their backs. And by the time they are able to roll onto their tummies, SIDS is no longer such a serious concern. You should also realize that these foam wedges are themselves soft bedding, which is not recommended by most pediatricians for very young babies.

Bedding sets are more than just quilts and bumper pads, though. They often include things like wall hangings, window valances, and even a mobile. Keep in mind what you and your baby actually need, though. These will probably not make the list.

But most parents are going to want a bedding set anyway, just for the look of the nursery. In this case, try unisex baby bedding like a Hot Cocoa crib set. It’s much more cost effective because you can use it again and again, regardless of the sex of your next baby.

A banquet is something that has a purpose behind it’s occurring. Whether it’s a wedding reception, a prom, a work related celebration, a retirement or some other purpose, you’re creating a special night for a special purpose. Since you wish that your party will be successful and that your guests will really enjoy themselves, uniting everything with a theme is ideal for using your decor and presentations to help achieve this.

Although you may be limited due to the type of event, you can get creative with the theme and style of the party. If you are looking for a theme or mood for a particular evening that you are entertaining use the seasons as your guide. It is very interesting to know about the While a banquet in December will almost always suggest a winter or Christmas theme, one in the early summer may have you leaning toward vacation or beach type of imagery and decorations.

It’s often a good move to put together a theme committee to take ideas and think though what would be a good theme that fits the purpose of the banquet and creates the right mood. There are a lot of options for a theme if the celebration is a seasonal part or prom. But even in the case of a wedding reception or a company annual Christmas party where you have the purpose of the banquet to keep in mind, you can create a theme around a color scheme or something related to the event that can inspire a lot of creative ideas in your committee.

The other good thing about a committee approach is you can use the combined talents of your team. You have the practical minded people on the team who know what you can and cannot get away with thematically and what you can and cannot afford from a budget perspective. If the committee’s creative members are asked to come up with banquet ideas and themes to make a memorable event, you can eventually decide on a theme that’s exciting and at the same time, realistic.

Once you settle on a banquet theme in terms of a concept for the banquet, then you can put everyone to work to focus in on that theme. Once your theme is chosen, smaller commitees can handle the details for you. And if everybody does their job well, you’ll have a delightful banquet that will be remembered for a long time by those who are in attendance. Be sure to also read about Banquet Chairs

My Kids Share A Bathroom And It’s Not A Pretty Sight

We’re fortunate that our house has an extra bathroom that just the kids can share. The unfortunate part is that they are having trouble getting along in there. You wouldn’t think that figuring out how to organize your kids bathroom would be such a challenge, but it is. Recognizing the need for each child’s own “space” is crucial to a successful re-organization attempt. I’ve found that when I involved my kids in the decision making process, things went much smoother! Starting with simple things like their own towel rack, their own separate shelves, drawers, bins, even towels with their names, made it seem a little more personalized to their needs. Asking your kids about what they need in their bathroom will give you a heads-up and help you design their special space.

Art Lights – Faq

As the operator of a web site devoted to the topic of art light for the past decade, I have encountered questions on every possible issue that people have discovered on the topic of artwork lighting and the methods used to provide it. I have listed the most common questionsand the responses that our team of professionals have given to them over that time. The outstanding reason for holding back this information until recentlyto publish a document such as this one is that the answers have been time proven to be effective.

The most likely question people ask and that we receive almost daily is that of the issue of seeing the cord. The question is asked by just about everyone and people ask it as a way of making a decision as to if they will purchase a picture light. The question of getting rid of the cord can be answered best by expressing many of the methods we have encountered to eliminate the need or to hide the cord leading from the electric outlet up to the picture light.

One of the first and best ways of addressing the cord involves hiding it from sight. By installing a recessed outlet, many times called a clock outlet, directly behind the actual picture the entire cord and circuit can be removed from view. Our customers typically take this one step further and then cut the cord to the proper, smaller length and then use a device called a snap on plug to allow for a convenient way to attach an electrical plug to the cord. We then will recommend that the customer install a dimmer switch on the circuit.

The use of cord covers can also be very effective. The cord covers can make the appearance of the cord practically disappear. The cord covers are also very easy to install. When people ask where they can get cord covers we recommend that they go to their local home improvement store. The covers are typically on display in the paint section or the electrical section of the store.

A less expensive and convenient approach to lessening the visibility of the cord is to simply paint it. Just about every cord on lamps sold in our online store is paintable. While I am not one hundred percent positive about cords of other picture lights, ours are all paintable. Taking the time to make the cord become the same color as the wall it rests against will allow the cord to blend in so well that the cord will barely be able to be seen.

Another great way to hide the cord that does not involve electricity is to place plants, furniture, display tables or other decor in a position to hide most of the cord. In my house we have taken this approach and it seems to work great in the longer hallway where the picture lights are installed. We have used a staple gun to help attach the cord to the baseboard. This keeps the cord straight and dramatically improves its appearance.

Finally, we recommend that our customers consider using a battery powered picture light. The picture lights will provide attractive minimum light and will last up to 45 hours. A few models are even rechargeable.

A Modern Wall Clock For Hi-tech Accuracy

by FurnitureGuru on October 12, 2008

If you haven’t looked lately, a modern wall clock might surprise you. They have become increasingly more popular and have become an essential part of most homes, schools, and offices. Today’s wall clock can compliment essentially any decorating style. They are designed to blend seamlessly with a more traditional or modern type of decor. So, what are the hottest new modern wall clocks on the market today? Well, the latest rage has been all about the new high technology clocks — the atomic wall clock and the world wall clock.

Atomic Wall Clocks for Accurate Time

If keeping the accurate time is important to you, these hi-tech clocks will be your top option. The atomic clock is one of the latest technological advances in the measurement of time. These clocks can even measure time in milli-seconds and can correct themselves through contact with global satellites. These clocks are often referred to as radio controlled clocks.

An atomic wall clock works by using an internal mechanism that employs radio frequencies to synchronize its present time and date with the U.S. Atomic Clock. So, what is the U.S. Atomic Clock? This seems to be a well kept secret, but in reality, it is a radio controlled clock that is operated and maintained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

You may be asking yourself how can these wall clocks keep such accurate time. Well, an atomic wall clock contains a small antenna incorporated into it that will receive a radio signal from the center at Ft. Collins, Colorado. This antenna picks up a radio signal that relays both the time and date, to the millisecond, to your atomic clock. All you have to do is initially set your atomic clock to the time zone in your state. The clock will do all the rest and be automatically updated from the U.S. Atomic Clock. What is even more amazing is that your radio controlled clock can even adjust itself automatically for daylight savings time (DST).

Do You Need a World Wall Clock?

Chances are that you may not have heard of a world clock, but the short explanation is that a world wall clock can measure and display time for any region across the globe. The typical world wall clock can give you the time for a specific region by using a process of dividing the globe into time zones. Each region, whether it be states or countries, will correspond to a different time zone. This allows for consistency of daylight hours as the earth circles the sun.

The world of modern wall clocks has evolved based on actual needs of individuals and businesses. This is why the world wall clock has grown in importance. Developments such as the Internet and modern communication devices have essentially shrunken the globe. And from a business perspective, it has become essential for a business person to consider time zones. With their clients and customers literally scattered anywhere around the world, knowing the time in their specific time zones is a must.

So, almost out of necessity, a modern wall clock, whether it be an atomic wall clock or world wall clock, should be a must-have feature in almost every home and business. But don’t forget, despite their hi-tech nature, these clocks can still be an attractive addition to any home or office and fit nicely into almost any decor.

Why All Weather Wicker Furniture Is Perfect For Your Home

1. No More Back Wrenching Labor!
Summer time is fun time, who wants to do work? Nothing zaps the fun out of summer parties more than having to drag your furniture inside everytime the weather turns foul, and outside everytime you want to use it again. With outdoor wicker furniture you safely leave your patio furniture outside not just all summer but all winter too!

2. No More Fading In the Sun!
High grade outdoor wicker furniture is made of Polyethylene (PE), a plastic that is infused with UV blockers that prevent color fading despite the summer sun. Traditional wicker furniture is made from Abaca (palm) leaves whose colors will diminish with prolonged UV exposure. However with quality synthetic outdoor wicker furniture you won’t have to worry about losing color.

3. Water Proof Too!
Water can’t soak into the fibers of outdoor wicker furniture is comprised of particularly non-porous strands of synthetic wicker. Traditional abaca wicker will soak up water like a sponge when the applied sealants wear off and will eventually rot if exposed to the elements. You can leave quality modern wicker furniture outdoor year round regardless of the weather without risk of water damage.

4. Rust Proof!
Iron patio furniture will resist rust as long as the paint or finish stays intact. Unfortunately, it is unavoidable that the sealant will eventually wear down with use as scratches form on the surface, letting rust set in. Quality wicker furniture is made with aluminum frames, that while it technically does rust it actually grows stronger when it oxidizes unlike other metals. As aluminum oxidizes it forms a protective layer around itself which is the same color as aluminum so not only does it grow stronger with age but it looks just as good as new.

5. More Style!
Because wicker furniture is made from moldable aluminum and synthetic wicker, there is practically no limit to the designs and styles available. The choices, especially so far as colors are concerned, are practically endless in their variations for those seeking custom outdoor wicker furniture. Plus the texture and width of the strands weave patterns can be modified to create a variety of different looks. Combine these versatile synthetic wicker strands with unlimited aluminum frame designs and you have an wicker furniture set for any patio, balcony or garden.

6. Eco-Friendly!
wicker outdoor furniture made from Polyethylene (PE) will not only last a lifetime but it is recyclable too. It is important to make sure that the outdoor wicker sofa or dining set you purchase is indeed made from PE and not Polyvinylchloride (PVC) which is not at all eco friendly. PVC off gases harmful chemicals that are bad for the environment and humans during its entire lifespan. Plus PVC is not recyclable making it one of the most hazardous plastics on the planet. So look at the label, if it does not advertise PE then you can bet it’s PVC.

Save Money – The Pluses And Minuses Of Speaking With An Interior Decorator Before You Buy Furniture

by FurnitureGuru on October 11, 2008

Loading ... Loading ...

With the state of our economy both in the US and worldwide, people are increasingly looking for creative means of saving money, even when spending for items out of the ordinary. It is no wonder then that sales, discounts, and coupon clipping are so popular.

This is true with the purchase of furniture as well. And though you might not normally think that the hiring of a home specialist is a means of saving money, you may, however, be pleasantly surprised at how their skills can indeed help you save in the end – even after paying their fee.

A professional interior decorator is someone you can hire to help you decorate and organize a room to make it more attractive, functional and up-to-date. These décor professionals can do everything from a simple consultation to a full home overhaul.

Keep reading to learn the benefits and disadvantages of hiring or consulting a professional before you buy furniture.

Benefit – Discounted Prices

Because interior decorators have extensive contacts, they can often purchase furniture pieces at wholesale or trade prices. Consequently, you can routinely pick up beautiful, designer items for less money than you would ordinarily pay.

Drawback – Mark-ups and Consultation Fees

Interior design or décor professionals don’t work for free. What you may save on wholesale furniture prices is probably going to cost you in consultation fees.

Benefit – Expertise and Professional Consultation

If you’re not a design expert or even if you simply don’t have the time to deal with home decorating, hiring a professional to take care of those decisions could be a wise investment. If your time is valuable, delegating furniture purchasing to someone else could even save you money.

Drawback – Lack of Personal Input

While most design professionals actively seek input and guidance from their clients, you’re still surrendering some control over your space and furniture buying decisions. If you’re the kind of person who likes to be intimately involved in your home, consulting a professional might not be right for you.

Benefit – Tracking Down Discounts

Because interior decorators work in the field every day, they have a great knowledge base about tracking down hot furniture deals, where the good sales are and how to locate quality products at discounted prices.

Benefit – Making you Stick to Your Budget

One of the best benefits of working with an interior design professional before you buy furniture is that they make you stick to a budget. Let’s say you set out with a personal budget of $4000 to refurnish your living room. If you hire a professional consultant for $500 and give her $3500 to work with, you’re more likely to come in on budget than if you go out on your own.

Why? Because once you’re shopping, you’re more likely to authorize extra purchases, pull out that second credit card or indulge in items that you don’t need. A professional can rein in those impulses.

In short, whether consulting a professional before you buy furniture is worth it is going to depend on you and understanding your purchasing and designing style.
