Nursery Furniture
Is a baby on the way? Nothing is more fun than window shopping for baby’s nursery. There are so many ideas and styles to choose from. If you are nostalgic, then choose a classic print and go with a traditional varnished-wood crib with matching changing table and bureau.
You will want a rocker to match. If you are more modern in your thinking, cribs today come in a variety of looks and most have a matching changing table or bureau to go with it. As you examine furniture, think about how you will best be served by it. Can you use it later after the baby has grown older? Often the level at which we pick up baby needs to be at least waist high or higher. This protects your back and allows you to bring the baby to you without causing him or her undue distress.
You may wish to select specialized shelving with wide shelves for diaper storage, blankets and other bedclothes. Many cribs can actually be adapted for use with a toddler. Or, you may want to invest in an adult-sized bed to be used later when the crib is no longer needed. It’s also useful for taking a nap while keeping an eye on baby. Some couples invest in a bassinet for their infant. Although it is not as useful in the long term as a crib, it does give a baby a sense of coziness that encourages sleeping.
