Anyone who has been baby shopping recently, especially if they’ve browsed online, will tell you that the vast selection of baby bedding online can actually make a decision harder instead of easier. Animal designs come in everything from caterpillar baby bedding to giraffes. Angels are another popular theme, both for shoppers and designers. There are hundreds of different bedding sets to choose from. And if you want nursery rhymes or cartoon characters, put aside a couple of weeks just to browse!
Whether it’s boy crib bedding or baby girl, when you see all the super-cute options you have, you may be tempted to overspend or break your budget. I know parents love to look at that perfect nursery, but quite honestly, your baby isn’t going to care. Here are some things that your baby actually will care about:
- Think twice before installing bumper pads – they may not be as useful as you think. Crib bumpers are a potential cause of suffocation, because they can loosen and cover baby’s face. If you decide to put crib bumpers in, be sure that they are properly secured and that any ties are on the outside of the railings. But the far better option is to just remove the pads completely, at least until the end of year one.
- You won’t find sheet sets for cribs, because babies don’t use flat sheets or pillowcases, just the fitted sheet. When buying crib sheets, be sure you know the size of your mattress first. If the sheets don’t fit snugly, they may peel off the mattress. Not only is this annoying, it’s a serious health risk. Diaper leaks are inevitable so consider a mattress protector and avoid white sheets!
- As far as blankets go, babies don’t need to be any warmer than adults, and loose blankets can also cause problems. Stick with a sleep sack instead. There is one other serious safety hazard you should be aware of: stuffed animals and pillows.
When choosing a baby crib bedding set, first make sure it’s safe. With so many options available, you can still find something adorable.
